Dixie Greyhound Bus Lines
Ground was broken yesterday for the construction work for a service station of the Shell Petroleum Corporation at the corner of Main and Church streets.
The new station will occupy the property formerly owned by J. H. Freeman on the northeast corner of the street intersection, diagonally across from the new city hall.

The new gasoline filling station erected by the Shell Petroleum Company on the corner of Main and Church opened for business Saturday. It is understood that this station is the first of a group that is to be erected by that company in Greenwood.
The appearance that the station makes on this corner is a great improvement and contrast to the old ramshackle house that formerly occupied this site, and has received the compliments of many who feel that Greenwood has been benefited by the erection of this modern station.

The Dixie Greyhound Lines have leased the property now occupied by the Shell Petroleum Company at the corner of Church and Main streets, and will erect one of the most modern bus stations in the state at that location to serve their customers in Greenwood.
Construction work on the station will begin within the next week or ten days. Possession of the property was granted to the Dixie Greyhound Lines today.

A number of Greenwood citizens went to Jackson today to testify in regard to a petition from the Cox Motor Company, which seeks to establish service from Pickens to Greenwood, via Lexington, Tchula, Cruger and Sidon. The petition is being opposed by the Dixie Greyhound Lines, which has the franchise for the operation of buses from Jackson to Memphis over Highway 49 East.
